Understanding

Knowing what to do next is where NPN comes in.

Parenting a neurodivergent child comes with plenty of information, but turning that information into everyday decisions can be much harder.

NeuroParentNow helps parents understand what’s happening beneath the behavior and turn that understanding into practical support.

Parents are surrounded by information. Books, podcasts, social media, professionals, schools, and well-meaning advice offer endless ideas about what parents should be doing. But knowing more doesn’t necessarily make the hard moments any easier.

Most parents want to understand their child deeply. They want to know what’s behind the behavior, why certain things are so hard, what their child needs, and how best to support them. But even with that understanding, figuring out what to actually do in everyday life can be difficult.

NeuroParentNow grew from seeing that struggle again and again. My work helps parents understand what may be driving behavior, recognize the skills their child is still developing, and find practical ways to support those needs at home.

When behavior makes more sense, there’s less second-guessing and more confidence in choosing what fits your child and your family.

Why NeuroParentNow Exists

Understand your child more deeply.

Know what to do with that understanding.

Turn insight into action.

My Story

I had spent years working with children. I worked in daycares, volunteered in summer programs, and taught early elementary school. Connecting with kids had always come naturally to me…

And then my own child received a diagnosis, and suddenly I felt completely out of my depth.

I remember waking up in those early days from the kind of deep, dreamless sleep that only comes when you are completely exhausted. For the first few seconds, I slowly became aware of my alarm clock, my bed, my room.

Then full awareness would rush back. I would remember where we were, what we were facing, and everything I still didn’t know. The feeling was almost physical. Like being pulled underwater before I’d even had a chance to catch my breath.

There was so much to learn, and I felt like I needed to learn it all immediately. Therapies, terminology, appointments, recommendations, decisions that felt far too important to get wrong. And life didn’t stop while I figured it out. I still had to go to work, make dinner, do laundry, be a parent. There was no pause button.

I loved my child fiercely, but loving my child didn’t automatically tell me what to do. Information was everywhere, and instead of making me feel more capable, sometimes it just made me feel like I was drowning in it. Every answer seemed to lead to three more questions. And underneath it all was the thought I think so many parents carry quietly:

What if I do this wrong?

Over time, I learned. A lot. I took classes, read, researched, asked questions, listened to people who knew more than I did, and slowly began putting the pieces together. I started to understand my child in ways I hadn’t before. But some of the most important things I learned weren’t about my child. They were about what parents need.

When you’re overwhelmed and trying to figure out how to help your child, you don’t need someone standing on the shore explaining the science of drowning. You need someone to help you find your footing. Someone who can take all of that research, advice, and professional language and help answer the question that actually matters when you’re standing in your kitchen with dinner burning and a child who is falling apart:

What do I do right now?

That question has stayed with me through more than two decades in education and through raising my own neurodivergent child. It’s a big part of why I created NeuroParentNow.

Parents deserve what I desperately needed in those early years.

A place where complicated information becomes clear, behavior is approached with curiosity, and parents leave knowing what they can actually do. Families shouldn’t have to become experts overnight just to understand their own child. Sometimes they need someone who has done the learning to help them find their next step.

“Jenny was there for us every step of the way with resources, advice, and support. She was also a continuous source of warmth and kindness when everything else felt cold, harsh, and uncaring.”

IN SOMEONE ELSE’S WORDS

My Philosophy

Understanding changes how we respond.

How we respond changes what comes next.

01

Behavior has meaning. Look beneath what you can see before deciding what to do about it.

Understand

02

Regulation and connection come before correction. Kids learn better when they feel understood and supported.

Connect

03

The goal isn’t simply obedience. It’s helping kids build the skills they need to navigate their lives more successfully.

Teach

Understand first.

Then put that insight into action.

NOW THAT YOU KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT ME…

WHAT’S MOST HELPFUL TO YOU?

I’d like to bring Jenny to our organization.

Let’s talk about what your families, educators, or community need.

I’m looking for a workshop or presentation.

Engaging parent education that changes how we understand behavior.

I want practical ideas and items I can use at home.

Tools, resources, and recommendations designed to turn insight into action.

Or return to the beginning → Home
